Congregation Sha'arei Mizrah

Congregation Sha’arei Mizrah is the ritual side of the Burquest Jewish Community Association. Sha’arei Mizrah holds bi-monthly Shabbat services led by Cantor Steve Levin. Other holiday celebrations are an integral part of the Burquest tradition.  We retain the services of a rabbi for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur observances.  We host an annual Succoth brunch, Channukah parties, lively Purim and Simchat Torah services, Passover Seder and many more community events.

Shabbat Services

We have Shabbat Services twice per month (except during July and August) – usually one on a Friday evening and one on a Saturday morning, approximately two weeks apart.

  • Kabbalat Shabbat Service, on a Friday evening at 7:30 pm, service followed by Kiddish and light refreshments

  • Sabbat Morning Service, on a Saturday morning at 10:30 am, service followed by Kiddish and a light lunch

Please feel free to bring a dairy or parve (vegetarian) dish or nosh to share.

A few times a year, we have a pot luck dinner service before the Friday evening Kabbalat Shabbat Service and these start at 6:30, followed by a somewhat shorter service. These are always announced in advance.

During the summer, we only have one service in July and one in August.

Please check our Calendar for the next service.

We love our musical services, led by Cantor Steve Levin. We say our prayers in either English or Hebrew and sing our songs mostly in Hebrew. We use a Siddur that has English, transliteration, and Hebrew.

Our services are family friendly!
